
Costumes are provided by the company. Dancers are charged a $10 cleaning fee. Dancers supply their own tights, shoes and undergarments.
Dancers are eligible to perform in the DCYB in their fourth year of training. Transfer students to the Academy of Ballet who are intermediate level are invited to understudy one year before joining the company. Adults from the community are invited to participate in appropriate roles (such as party parents in The Nutcracker.) The company rehearses for ten weeks prior to opening. Group rehearsals are scheduled on Saturdays, with small group and soloist rehearsals scheduled during the week at 3:00 and 7:00.

Dubuque City Youth Ballet - formed in 1968 and gave its premiere performance with the University of Northern Iowa Orchestra, Donald Wendt, Conductor. The new company, formed by Tatiana Bechenova, presented works from the Ballet Russe repetoire. In its early years, the DCYB performed at Clarke College. The DCYB celebrated the opening of the Five Flags Center, and now performs in all area theaters.
Ballets in the DCYB repertory include The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, Coppelia, Cinderella, Don Quixote and the original full length ballet: The Littlest Angel.
The Dubuque City Youth Ballet is a 501-C-3 organization. Donations are tax deductible, as provided by law. The Academy of Ballet provides studio and storage facilities for the DCYB.
The Heartland Ballet is a division of the DCYB, consisting of high school, adult and advanced dancers from the DCYB.
Performance opportunities for the Heartland Ballet include repertory ballets Swan Lake and Giselle, one-act ballets, original and commissioned ballets and numerous performances in the tri-state schools.
Classes for members are daily at 6:00, with rehearsals following class, and on Saturdays. Costumes are provided; dancers pay a $10.00 cleaning fee and supply their own tights, shoes and undergarments.

December 13, 14, 19, 20 and 21, 2008 Dubuque City Youth Ballet performs The Nutcracker at the Grand Opera House!
March 28, 29, April 3, 4 and 5, 2009 Heartland Ballet and the DCYB perform the delightful, comedic ballet, Coppelia, at the Grand Opera House.
May 9, 2009, 1:00 - 3:30 Academy of Ballet All Class Presentation. Unlimited Audience: free event, generous applause expected! Location to be announced.
